Christianity Today board member, Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, was honored to serve as the first Latino to give the keynote address at the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Service. The service was held on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, January 21, 2013, at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia.

Rodriguez, also president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference and partnering with Christianity Today on the 2013 launch of Cristianismo Hoy, was described by King's daughter, Bernice, as "an electrifying orator" and "one of the most dynamic and inspiring proponents of the social gospel in the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr."
