Meet Today's Christian

Today's Christian (formerly Christian Reader) was originally started in 1963 by Ken Taylor. Today's Christian provides the best in Christian editorial with features including family, church, real-life drama, evangelism, encouragement, humor, and hope.

Today's Christian is published bimonthly by Christianity Today International, 465 Gundersen Drive, Carol Stream, Illinois 60188.

Meet the Staff of Today's Christian

You might wonder about the people who produce the magazine you're reading. Here's a quick introduction to the Today's Christian staff.

Mark Moring interim editor of Today's Christian, loves stories about interesting people—be they celebrities or "regular" everyday folks. Mark is also editor of www.ChristianityTodayMovies.com, and lives with his wife, Nina, two teenage sons, Peter and Paul, in the Chicago burbs.

Dawn Zemke is associate editor for Today's Christian. She loves science as well as writing, and worked as a microbiologist for a large pharmaceutical company before coming to CTI. She lives in the Chicago suburbs with her husband and two teenaged children.

Cynthia Thomas has been editorial coordinator for almost 20 years. She likes to decorate her office for the different seasons, which include: Winter—Snowmen; Spring—Horses; Summer—Ladybugs; Fall—Lighthouses. Cynthia and her husband, Jim have two children, a daughter-in-law, a grandson, and two "fur" kids—Shelby, a Beagle-mix and Bluff, a rescued Greyhound. In their free time, Cynthia and Jim enjoy camping with their dogs and family members.

Phil Marcelo is Today's Christian's art director. He brings to TC years of graphic-design experience and a great editorial sense as well. Phil, his wife Karen, and their wonderful children, Nathan and Maggie, live in suburban Chicago.

Writer's Guidelines:

Send Today's Christian a Story!
Today's Christian's audience is a general interest one. The majority of our readers are adults in their 50s, including both men and women, urban professionals and rural homemakers, married and single, and Christians of every church affiliation. We seek to publish a magazine that people from a variety of ethnic groups will find interesting and relevant.

We publish six issues per year, and faith is the thread that ties together the articles. How does the person in the story exercise faith? How is that faith challenged and growing? How is the reader inspired to live the life of faith? We want to show ordinary faith at work, sometimes simply by allowing God to work in their everyday lives, sometimes in extraordinary ways, and occasionally by the miraculous. We strongly suggest you visit our website at www.todays-christian.com to get a feel for the type of material we publish.

We welcome both original and reprinted articles. We do not accept juvenile material, fiction, or poetry. Payment is made upon acceptance for original material; upon publication for reprint material. Today's Christian retains the right to edit material for length or content.

While query letters are accepted, manuscripts are preferred. In general, they should be no longer than 1,600 words and should be computer-generated or typed. Include the following information:

  • Author's name and address
  • Phone number (day and evening)
  • E-mail
  • Rights offered (first rights preferred; if reprint, give publication and date)
  • Type of submission (non-simultaneous strongly preferred)

Note: Electronic submissions are preferred. If you choose to mail your submission, please enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope. (If you want the manuscript returned, indicate that and enclose appropriate return postage and envelope size.) We respond to most submissions within six weeks, but please allow up to two months processing time.
