Job Title: Design AssistantFLSA Status: non-exempt

Position Summary: (Brief Summary Statement)

Assists the CT design team in the accurate and timely execution of layouts within CT magazine, CT special issues, and other CT products. Responsible for the translation of CT’s print issues to digital formats.

Qualifications Required: (Essential for the position)

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Basic Layout skills
  • Basic typographic acuity
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work efficiently, accurately, and to implement art direction
  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience
  • 1-5 years experience in a publishing environment working with layout and copy

Qualifications Desired: (Desired but not required for the position)

  • Experience working in InCopy
  • Experience preparing files for production
  • Photo editing skills using Photoshop or Lightroom
  • Experience with art direction and/or image selection

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Execute standardized page layouts for CT magazine including front- and back-of-book material and sections (News, Views, Reviews)
  • Collaborate with Creative Director and/or Art Director on developing the design of CT special issues and products
  • Manage the print-to-digital process for CT magazine and special issues
  • Contribute to the development of sustainable templates for new CT product development Assist with image research, editing, and asset management
  • Assist with production and administrative tasks related to the design department

Non-essential Functions:

  • Feature design
  • Engaging in design critiques and post-mortems
  • Contributing to the OneCT design conversation and the Design Enrichment Committee
